Biological Background: UBE4B Function and Localization

• UBE4B, also known as Ubiquitin conjugation factor E4 B, HDNB1, or UFD2, is a 146 kDa protein belonging to the U-box ubiquitin ligase family and exhibits alternative splicing variants.
• It functions as both an E3 ubiquitin ligase and an E4 ligase, mediating polyubiquitin chain assembly on substrates and playing a critical role in the ubiquitin-proteasome system (By similarity).
• UBE4B regulates myosin assembly in striated muscles by targeting the myosin chaperone UNC45B for proteasomal degradation, in cooperation with STUB1 and VCP/p97 (PubMed:17369820).
