- CCL5, also known as RANTES, SIS-delta, and Small-inducible cytokine A5, is a member of the C-C chemokine family.
- It acts as a chemoattractant for blood monocytes, memory T-helper cells, and eosinophils, and it causes histamine release from basophils and activates eosinophils.
- CCL5 may activate several chemokine receptors including CCR1, CCR3, CCR4, and CCR5, and it may serve as an agonist for the G protein-coupled receptor GPR75, contributing to neuron survival and insulin secretion.
- The protein is secreted and contains a signal peptide and disulfide bonds, characteristic of chemokines involved in inflammatory responses.
- The rat CCL5 gene (Ccl5/Scya5, GeneID 81780) shares homology with the human ortholog (GeneID 6352).
