• CCL8, also known as MCP-2 (monocyte chemoattractant protein 2), is a member of the CC chemokine family and is encoded by the CCL8 gene in humans.
• It is a secreted chemotactic cytokine that attracts monocytes, lymphocytes, basophils, and eosinophils, playing a role in inflammatory responses and neoplasia.
• The mature protein is processed from a signal peptide-containing precursor; an alternative processed form, MCP-2(6-76), lacks monocyte chemotactic activity but can inhibit the chemotactic effects of CCL7, CCL2, CCL5, and CCL8 itself.
