  • CD271, also known as p75NTR, Gp80-LNGFR, or TNFRSF16, is a tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member that functions as a low-affinity receptor for neurotrophins including NGF, BDNF, NTF3, and NTF4.
  • Forms a heterodimeric receptor with SORCS2 that binds precursor forms of NGF, BDNF, and NTF3 with high affinity, while showing much lower affinity for mature neurotrophins. Related references: PMID:24908487
  • Plays a dual role in neuronal cell fate, capable of mediating both cell survival and apoptosis depending on context and co-receptor interactions.
