Target Introduction:

Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a hormone produced in the heart. A BNP test is a blood test used to measure the levels of this hormone. Higher-than-normal levels of BNP in the blood can indicate that the heart isn't working properly, possibly due to heart failure or kidney dysfunction. A similar test, NT-proBNP, provides similar information but with different absolute values.
