Biological Background: ESE1/ELF3 Function and Localization

• ESE1/ELF3 is an ETS-related transcription factor that binds to the consensus core sequence GGA[AT] and acts as a transcriptional activator.
• It synergizes with POU2F3 to transactivate the SPRR2A promoter and with RUNX1 to transactivate ANGPT1, and also regulates a variety of target genes including CCL20, CLND7, FLG, KRT8, NOS2, PTGS2, TGFBR2, and TGM3.
• Plays a role in epithelial cell differentiation and tumorigenesis, and is a critical downstream effector of the ERBB2 signaling pathway.
• Involved in mediating vascular inflammation and may contribute to inflammatory responses.
