- UBE2I, also known as SUMO-conjugating enzyme UBC9, ubiquitin carrier protein 9, or p18, is a key E2 enzyme in the SUMOylation pathway.
- It accepts SUMO proteins (SUMO1-4 and SUMO5) from the E1 complex and catalyzes their covalent attachment to target proteins, often with the help of E3 ligases like RANBP2 and CBX4.
- UBE2I is essential for nuclear architecture and chromosome segregation, playing a critical role in mitosis and cell cycle progression.
