Biological Background: TARBP2 Function and Localization

TARBP2, also known as TRBP, is a RISC-loading complex subunit essential for RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) formation. It operates within the RISC loading complex (RLC) alongside DICER1 and AGO2, processing precursor miRNAs (pre-miRNAs) to mature miRNAs and loading them onto AGO2 (PubMed:15973356, PubMed:16142218, PubMed:16271387).

The protein may also contribute to the production of short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) from double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) via DICER1. For certain pre-miRNA substrates, TARBP2 can alter the cleavage site choice of DICER1 (PubMed:23063653).
