Biological Background: SOX10 Function and Localization

• Transcription factor SOX-10 is a member of the SRY-related HMG-box (SOX) family of DNA-binding proteins, with a predicted molecular weight of ~50 kDa (UniProt: P56693).
• It plays a central role in developing and mature glia, specifically activating myelin genes such as DUSP15 and MYRF during oligodendrocyte maturation and CNS myelination.
• SOX-10 acts as a transcriptional activator of MITF, working synergistically with PAX3 to regulate melanocyte development. Related references: PMID:21965087
• Subcellularly, it is found in the cytoplasm, nucleus, and mitochondrial outer membrane, reflecting dynamic regulation.
