Biological Background: SNX18 Function and Localization
- SNX18, also designated SH3 and PX domain-containing protein 3B (SH3PXD3B) and SNAG1, is a sorting nexin family member containing both a phox homology (PX) lipid-binding domain and an SH3 domain.
- It is involved in endocytosis and intracellular vesicle trafficking during interphase and mitosis, playing roles in both clathrin-mediated endocytosis and clathrin-independent, actin-dependent fluid-phase endocytosis as well as macropinocytosis. - SNX18 binds to membranes enriched in phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate, promotes membrane tubulation, stimulates the GTPase activity of dynamin-2 (DNM2), and facilitates DNM2 localization at the plasma membrane. Related references: PMID:18411244, PMID:20427313
