Biological Background: CD69 Function and Localization
- CD69 is a type II transmembrane protein belonging to the C-type lectin superfamily, also known as AIM (activation inducer molecule) or VEA (very early activation antigen).
- It is rapidly upregulated on the surface of activated T‑lymphocytes, B‑cells, NK cells, neutrophils, and platelets, serving as an early marker of immune cell activation. Related references: PMID:38540778
- CD69 negatively regulates Th17 cell differentiation via interaction with galectin‑1/LGALS1 on immature dendritic cells and through the JAK3/STAT5 signaling pathway that controls RORγt transcription. Related references: PMID:20696842
