• CD38 (ADP-ribosyl cyclase/cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase 1) is a multifunctional transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by the Cd38 gene, also known as I-19, ADPRC 1, or Cd38-rs1.
• It functions as both an enzyme and a receptor, catalyzing the synthesis of cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR) from NAD+, a key second messenger in glucose-induced insulin secretion.
