  • CD8A encodes the alpha chain of the T-cell surface glycoprotein CD8, also known as T8/Leu-2, a coreceptor critical for adaptive immunity.
  • Functions as a coreceptor for MHC class I molecules, interacting simultaneously with the T-cell receptor (TCR) and MHC class I proteins on antigen-presenting cells to facilitate recognition of cytosolic antigens.
