Biological Background: CD18 Function and Localization

• CD18 encodes integrin beta-2 (ITGB2), a cell surface glycoprotein that pairs with multiple alpha subunits (CD11a-d) to form leukocyte-specific integrins: LFA-1 (CD11a/CD18), Mac-1 (CD11b/CD18), p150,95 (CD11c/CD18), and alphaD/beta2 (CD11d/CD18). These heterodimers mediate diverse cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions.
