  • MRC2 (C-type mannose receptor 2) is also known as CD280, UPARAP, CLEC13E, or ENDO180, and belongs to the C-type lectin domain family.
  • It functions as an endocytic lectin receptor with calcium-dependent lectin activity, internalizing glycosylated ligands through clathrin-mediated endocytosis.
  • MRC2 is involved in the plasminogen activation system by regulating the extracellular levels of PLAUR (urokinase receptor) and PLAU (urokinase), thereby controlling cell surface protease activity.
  • It contributes to the uptake, remodeling, and degradation of extracellular collagen matrices, and may collaborate with matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).
  • MRC2 plays a role in cancer progression and chronic tissue-destructive diseases through its effects on collagen turnover.
  • The protein is a single-pass type I membrane protein localized at the cell membrane, with a molecular weight of approximately 167 kDa (precursor ~166.7 kDa).
