Biological Background: Cytidine Deaminase (CDA) Function and Localization

• Cytidine deaminase (CDA), also known as cytidine aminohydrolase or CDD, is a 16 kDa enzyme encoded by the CDA gene (GeneID: 978) in humans.
• The enzyme functions as a hydrolase that deaminates cytidine and 2'-deoxycytidine, scavenging both exogenous and endogenous substrates for UMP synthesis.
• CDA is a metal-binding protein that requires zinc as a cofactor for its catalytic activity.
