Biological Background: CD87/PLAUR Function and Localization
- GPI-anchored receptor that binds urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) with high affinity, concentrating its proteolytic activity at the cell surface to convert plasminogen into plasmin, thereby initiating extracellular matrix degradation and remodeling. Related references: PMID:1689240, PMID:15677461
- Serves as an adhesion receptor by binding vitronectin in the extracellular matrix, which promotes cell-matrix adhesion and indirectly triggers integrin signaling. Related references: PMID:17548516, PMID:25168639, PMID:28849762
- Coordinates dynamic changes in cell migration, proliferation, and tissue remodeling by integrating uPA proteolysis and vitronectin adhesion. Related references: PMID:28849762
- Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms; the full-length GPI-anchored form is predominantly membrane-bound, while soluble forms can be secreted.
- Localized primarily to the cell membrane and invadopodium membrane; also detected in a secreted form.
- Expressed in neurons of the rolandic area of the brain (at protein level) and in other tissues.

Experimental Guidance and Technical Tips
- The immunogen spans the extracellular domain (aa 23–303), suggesting the antibody recognizes the native receptor; consider use in flow cytometry for surface staining of live cells.
- For optimal FC performance, titrate the antibody and include appropriate isotype controls. Validate staining in the relevant human sample system expressing CD87/PLAUR.
