- Macrosialin (CD68) is a heavily glycosylated transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the LAMP family, encoded by the CD68 gene in humans.
- Plays a key role in phagocytic activities of tissue macrophages, including intracellular lysosomal metabolism and extracellular cell-cell/cell-pathogen interactions.
- Binds to tissue- and organ-specific lectins or selectins, facilitating homing of macrophage subsets to particular sites.
