Biological Background: CD61 Function and Localization

• CD61, also known as Integrin beta-3 or GPIIIa, is a transmembrane glycoprotein that pairs with alpha-V (ITGAV) or alpha-IIb (ITGA2B) to form integrin receptors. Alternative splicing yields isoforms beta-3A (widely expressed, specific in osteoblasts) and beta-3C (prostate and testis specific).
