Biological Background: CD48 Function and Localization

• CD48 (BCM1, BLAST-1, SLAMF2) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the signaling lymphocytic activation molecule (SLAM) family. It is encoded by the CD48 gene and expressed as multiple isoforms due to alternative splicing.
