  • PSGL-1 mediates calcium-dependent interactions with E-, P-, and L-selectins, enabling the tethering and rolling of leukocytes on endothelial cells, which is the initial step in leukocyte extravasation during inflammation.
  • It plays a critical role in the early leukocyte capture and is essential for directing leukocytes to sites of inflammation or injury.
  • Besides its role in inflammation, PSGL-1 serves as a receptor for enterovirus 71, highlighting its involvement in host-pathogen interactions.
