• PPBP encodes platelet basic protein, also known as C-X-C motif chemokine 7 (CXCL7), leukocyte-derived growth factor (LDGF), and macrophage-derived growth factor (MDGF).
• The protein undergoes proteolytic processing into several active peptides, including connective tissue-activating peptide III (CTAP-III), beta-thromboglobulin (Beta-TG), neutrophil-activating peptide 2 (NAP-2), and thrombocidins (TC-1, TC-2).
