  • RPS6KB1 encodes the 70 kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase beta-1 (p70S6K), also known as S6K1, p70 S6 kinase alpha, or serine/threonine-protein kinase 14A (STK14A).
  • The kinase acts as a key downstream effector of mTORC1, regulating protein synthesis and cell growth. Upon mitogenic stimulation, mTORC1-mediated phosphorylation dissociates p70S6K from the EIF3 complex, enabling it to phosphorylate translation factors such as EIF4B and PDCD4, thereby promoting cap-dependent translation initiation.
