Biological Background: GSK3β Function and Localization
- GSK3β (Glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta) is a constitutively active serine/threonine-protein kinase that negatively regulates glycogen synthesis, Wnt signaling, and transcription factors by phosphorylating targets such as glycogen synthase, beta-catenin, and JUN. - In the Wnt pathway, GSK3β forms a destruction complex with APC and AXIN1, phosphorylating beta-catenin to target it for ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation. Related references: PMID:12554650
