- ACC1 (acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1, encoded by ACACA) is a biotin-dependent multifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the ATP-dependent carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA, the first and rate‑limiting step of de novo fatty acid biosynthesis. - ACC2 (acetyl-CoA carboxylase 2, encoded by ACACB) is a homologous isoform that primarily regulates fatty acid oxidation; the antibody recognizes a conserved phosphorylation site common to both ACC1 and ACC2.
- The enzyme localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm / cytosol.
- ACC1 is expressed in brain, placenta, skeletal muscle, renal, pancreatic and adipose tissues; it is present at low levels in lung and is not detected in liver.
