Biological Background: IgM Function and Localization

• Immunoglobulin heavy constant mu (IgM) is encoded by the Ighm gene and constitutes the constant region of IgM heavy chains. Alternative splicing generates both secreted (sIgM) and membrane-bound (mIgM) isoforms.
