• CD34, encoded by the Cd34 gene, is a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein with a calculated molecular weight of approximately 41 kDa (UniProt: Q64314). Several alternatively spliced isoforms exist.
• Functions as a possible adhesion molecule implicated in early hematopoiesis, mediating stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells.
• May act as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans, facilitating binding to lectins on stromal cells or other marrow components, and presents carbohydrate ligands to selectins (By similarity).
