- CD204, also known as Macrophage scavenger receptor types I and II (MSR1), is a membrane receptor generated by alternative splicing, containing coiled-coil and collagen-like domains (UniProt P30204).
- Recognizes and internalizes modified low-density lipoproteins such as acetylated LDL (AcLDL) and oxidized LDL (OxLDL), promoting cholesterol uptake and contributing to foam cell formation during atherogenesis.
- Plays a critical role in innate immune defense by binding a broad range of pathogen-associated and damage-associated molecules, including bacterial cell wall components and apoptotic cell debris; upon CpG DNA stimulation, it mediates LYN-SYK-TLR9 signaling to enhance immune responses.
