Biological Background: PLZF Function and Localization
- Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 16 (ZBTB16), also known as promyelocytic leukemia zinc finger protein (PLZF) and zinc finger protein 145 (ZNF145).
- Acts as a transcriptional repressor, with repression likely mediated through recruitment of histone deacetylases to target promoters. Related references: PMID:10688654 | PMID:24359566
- Serves as a probable substrate-recognition component of an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex, directing ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of target proteins. Related references: PMID:14528312
- Implicated in myeloid maturation and the development and/or maintenance of other differentiated tissues.
- Predominantly localizes to the nucleus and nuclear bodies.
- Highly expressed in the hematopoietic system: bone marrow, early myeloid cell lines, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells; also found in ovary, and at lower levels in kidney and lung.
