Biological Background: CD48 Function and Localization

• CD48, also known as SLAMF2 or BLAST-1, is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the signaling lymphocytic activation molecule (SLAM) family. It features an extracellular region with two immunoglobulin-like domains and a GPI anchor, and alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms.
