Biological Background: CLEC10A/CD301 Function and Localization

• CLEC10A, also designated CD301, MGL (macrophage galactose-type lectin), HML, and CLECSF14, is a type II transmembrane C-type lectin receptor expressed on myeloid antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells in lymph nodes, skin, and dermal tissues.
• The protein specifically recognizes α- and β-linked N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) residues on glycoprotein and glycolipid antigens, including Tn antigen, T antigen, LacdiNAc, and gangliosides GM2/GD2, in a Ca²⁺-dependent manner.
