Biological Background: CD11a Function and Localization

• Integrin alpha-L (CD11a, LFA-1) is the alpha subunit of the leukocyte integrin LFA-1 (ITGAL/ITGB2), a member of the integrin family. The human ITGAL gene (GeneID: 3683) encodes multiple isoforms (118 kDa, 129 kDa, 134 kDa) due to alternative splicing. CD11a is primarily expressed on leukocytes.
