Biological Background: P23/PTGES3 Function and Localization
- PTGES3 (prostaglandin E synthase 3), also known as cPGES, p23, and TEBP, is a multifunctional protein encoded by the PTGES3 gene in humans. It belongs to the GST superfamily and functions both as a prostaglandin synthase and a molecular chaperone.
- As a cytosolic prostaglandin synthase, PTGES3 catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin endoperoxide H2 (PGH2) to prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a key lipid mediator involved in inflammation and pain signaling. Related references: PMID:10922363
- Acting as a co-chaperone, PTGES3 interacts with HSP90 and localizes to genomic response elements in a hormone-dependent manner, disrupting receptor-mediated transcriptional activation by promoting disassembly of transcriptional regulatory complexes.
