Biological Background: NTHL1 Function and Localization

• NTHL1 is a bifunctional DNA N-glycosylase with associated AP lyase function, initiating base excision repair (BER) of oxidative DNA damage (PubMed:29610152, PubMed:9927729).

• It primarily recognizes and repairs oxidative base damage of pyrimidines, and also possesses 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoG) DNA glycosylase activity.
