Biological Background: NOP58 Function and Localization
- NOP58 (nucleolar protein 5, NOL5/NOP5) is a core component of box C/D small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (snoRNP) complexes that methylate multiple sites on ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) and messenger RNAs (mRNAs). Related references: PMID:39570315
- NOP58 is required for the biogenesis of box C/D snoRNAs (e.g., U3, U8, U14) and functions as part of the small subunit (SSU) processome during early ribosomal subunit assembly, promoting pre-rRNA folding, modifications, cleavage, and exosome-mediated degradation.
