- Neurofilament M (NFM, NEF3) is a 102 kDa intermediate filament protein encoded by the NEFM gene in humans. It is also known as neurofilament medium polypeptide and neurofilament triplet M protein.
- As a core component of neurofilaments, NFM cooperates with neurofilament light (NEFL) and heavy (NEFH) polypeptides to maintain neuronal axon caliber and structural integrity.
