Biological Background: MSR1 Function and Localization

• MSR1 encodes macrophage scavenger receptor types I and II (also known as SR-A, CD204, SCARA1) that mediate binding, endocytosis, and phagocytosis of acetylated LDL (AcLDL) and oxidized LDL (OxLDL), promoting cholesterol uptake and foam cell formation in atherosclerosis.
