Biological Background: LIN28A Function and Localization
- LIN28A is an RNA-binding protein that inhibits processing of pre-let-7 miRNAs and regulates translation of mRNAs controlling developmental timing, pluripotency, and metabolism. Related references: PMID:21247876
- It recognizes common structural G-quartet (G4) features in miRNA and mRNA targets.
- LIN28A acts as a translational enhancer, driving specific mRNAs to polysomes and increasing protein synthesis; it binds IGF2, MYOD1, and its own mRNA.

- Subcellularly, LIN28A localizes to the cytoplasm, rough endoplasmic reticulum, P-bodies, stress granules, and nucleolus.
