Biological Background: NRF2 Function and Localization
- NRF2 (Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2), encoded by the NFE2L2 gene, is a transcription factor belonging to the cap'n'collar family. It is also known as HEBP1, Nrf-2, IMDDHH, or F2.

- Under basal conditions, NRF2 is ubiquitinated and degraded by the KEAP1 complex; oxidative stress inhibits KEAP1, promoting NRF2 nuclear accumulation, heterodimerization with small Maf proteins, and ARE binding.
