• Protein NDRG1 (N-myc downstream-regulated gene 1), also known as DRG-1, Cap43, RTP, and Rit42, is a member of the NDRG family of stress-responsive proteins.
• NDRG1 functions as a tumor suppressor in multiple cell types and is involved in p53/TP53-mediated caspase activation and apoptosis (necessary but not sufficient).
• Plays a critical role in cell trafficking, particularly in Schwann cells, and is essential for the maintenance and development of the peripheral nerve myelin sheath.
• Required for vesicular recycling of CDH1 (E-cadherin) and transferrin (TF), potentially contributing to lipid trafficking.
