Biological Background: IFITM3 Function and Localization

  • IFITM3 is an interferon-induced antiviral protein that restricts the entry of a broad range of enveloped viruses, including influenza A virus, SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2, Ebola virus, and HIV-1, by inhibiting viral fusion with cholesterol-depleted endosomes (PubMed:26354436; PubMed:33239446; PubMed:33270927).   • Belongs to the dispanin family (DSPA2b) and is also known as 1-8U or IP15, with interferon-inducible expression.

  • Cross-reactivity with mouse and rat IFITM3 is listed; however, sequence alignment and pilot experiments in these species are recommended to confirm antibody performance.
  • This antibody is validated for ELISA; it may be suitable for sandwich ELISA development when paired with a detection antibody recognizing a non-overlapping epitope.
