Biological Background: LITAF Function and Localization
- LITAF (Lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor-alpha factor), also known as PIG7 and SIMPLE (Small Integral Membrane Protein of Lysosome/Late Endosome), is a 161-amino acid protein encoded by the LITAF gene in humans.
- It plays a critical role in endosomal protein trafficking and lysosomal degradation, specifically in targeting membrane proteins such as EGFR and ERBB3 for degradation via the ESCRT pathway.
