Biological Background: CDK8 Function and Localization

• CDK8 (Cyclin-dependent kinase 8), also known as K35, IDDHBA, or Mediator complex subunit CDK8, is a serine/threonine-protein kinase and a core component of the Mediator complex.
• As a Mediator subunit, CDK8 functions as a transcriptional coactivator, bridging gene-specific regulatory proteins with the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery for regulated gene expression.
