Biological Background: BRG1/SMARCA4 Function and Localization
- BRG1 (also known as SMARCA4, BAF190A, SNF2-beta) is a catalytic ATPase subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex, which alters DNA-nucleosome contacts to regulate transcription of select genes (PubMed:15075294, PubMed:29374058, PubMed:30339381). - It is a key component of the CREST-BRG1 complex that orchestrates calcium-dependent transcriptional control, balancing repressor and activator complexes at promoters like c-FOS and NR2B (By similarity).
- SMARCA4 belongs to the neural progenitors-specific (npBAF) and neuron-specific (nBAF) chromatin remodeling complexes, playing critical roles in neural stem cell proliferation and neuronal differentiation.
