Biological Background: TRIM21 Function and Localization

• TRIM21/SS-A is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase with RING-type zinc finger, B-box, and coiled-coil domains. It cooperates with E2 enzymes (UBE2D1, UBE2D2, UBE2E1, UBE2E2) to ubiquitinate substrates including USP4, IKBKB, and CDKN1B, and forms SCF-like complexes regulating cell cycle progression.
