Biological Background: PCSK9 Function and Localization
- Crucial regulator of plasma cholesterol homeostasis; binds to LDL receptor family members (LDLR, VLDLR, LRP1/APOER, LRP8/APOER2) and promotes their degradation in intracellular acidic compartments, preventing LDLR recycling.
