Biological Background: LYPLA1 Function and Localization
- Acyl-protein thioesterase 1 (LYPLA1/APT1), also known as lysophospholipase 1 (LPL1), is a ~25 kDa hydrolase of the AB hydrolase superfamily.
- Acts as a potent palmitoyl thioesterase, mediating the depalmitoylation of diverse substrates including G alpha proteins, HRAS, ADRB2, KCNMA1, and SQSTM1. Related references: PMID:20418879, PMID:22399288, PMID:27481942, PMID:37802024
- Functions as a lysophospholipase, hydrolyzing lysophosphatidylcholine and other lysophospholipids, but thioesterase activity predominates. Related references: PMID:19439193
