Biological Background: ACSL4 Function and Localization
- ACSL4 (acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4) is a long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase that catalyzes the conversion of long-chain fatty acids into their active acyl-CoA derivatives, critical for both lipid biosynthesis and β-oxidation. - The enzyme preferentially activates arachidonate and eicosapentaenoate, and also processes epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs), thereby modulating glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and prostaglandin E2 secretion. Related references: PMID:21242590
