Biological Background: IL2 Function and Localization

• IL2 (Interleukin-2), also known as T-cell growth factor (TCGF), is a secreted cytokine predominantly produced by activated CD4-positive helper T-cells and, to a lesser extent, by CD8-positive T-cells and natural killer cells.

• For Western blot, consider using activated human T-cell lysates as a positive control; the predicted molecular weight is ~17 kDa, but glycosylation may result in a band between 15-20 kDa.
• For ELISA, a matched antibody pair may be required; validate the antibody’s performance as a capture or detection reagent in the relevant sample matrix.
• Cross-reactivity is reported for human; when working with other species, verify sequence homology and test experimentally.
