Biological Background: GRIK2 Function and Localization
- GRIK2, also known as glutamate receptor 6 (GluR6) or excitatory amino acid receptor 4 (EAA4), is a member of the ionotropic glutamate receptor family that functions as a cation-permeable ligand-gated ion channel gated by L-glutamate and the agonist kainate, mediating fast excitatory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system (PubMed:7536611, PubMed:8730589).
